Article Summary

Making a game of mealtimes can encourage faddy eaters back to eating well. Bear in mind that the odd fussy day won't do any harm and that it's what your children eat over the week as a whole that matters.
FOOD

From time to time a good eater can suddenly become very fussy.

One fun game to play is to give the children each a bowl of, say, small pieces of dried apricot or apple or carrot or raisins. Give yourself a bowl, too. Then start popping food into your mouth and counting aloud: I’ve eaten one! I’ve eaten two! You’ll be surprised how quickly the children will want to join in.

In general, do remember that what really matters is what the children eat over a whole week rather than at any specific meal. So, if you sense that at one meal one of the children is simply not hungry, respect their appetite and let them stop. Simply say, as nonchalantly as possible; tell Mummy when you are feeling hungry.
