Activity and exercise is vital for every family member, so get your children involved in dance, sports or other physical after-school activities. There's plenty to do indoors and out.
MAKING SURE BOTH CHILDREN ARE ACTIVE

Nowadays with so much time spent on playing on computers and watching television, children tend to be far less active than in the old days.
So, it is very important to ensure that each of your children is spending part of every day walking or running out of doors and generally being physically active. There is nothing wrong with some time spent on computers or watching suitable programmes.

These days, all children need to be computer-literate and it is not too early for your little one to start learning to use a mouse or to play playing some educational games suitable for her age on the computer.
People are constantly updating their computers, so if you do not have one, it is easy to get an inexpensive second-hand computer on the internet. Just make sure that it supports children’s games.
You can also buy children’s games and videos in charity shops, which are always worth checking out.
But do have some rules about how long each child is allowed to sit at the computer or watch the television screen, and intersperse that time with energy spent out in the fresh air.
Never put the computer in your children’s bedrooms unless it is completely barred from the internet. Alas nowadays there are many sites that are most unsuitable for children and dangerous individuals who try to groom children through chat rooms to reveal all their personal details. If your computer has access to the internet, have it in a place where you frequently pass so that you can check particularly what your older child is accessing.
On the other hand, properly used the internet is a wonderful source of information and can help your older child with lots of ideas for his homework projects.

In order to make sure that both the children remain active, after-school activities like ballet, street jazz dancing, football, tennis and other sports are a really good idea. At the weekend, go out on long family walks to search for different shapes of leaves, or a trip to the local swimming pool. Try to get into the habit - one that is good not only for the children, but also for you - of walking wherever possible rather than taking the car or public transport. You’ll be surprised how easily you will start to increase the distances that you consider walkable!

Of course, it’s a good idea to take along a foldable pushchair, because your little one may tire more quickly than you and your older child. If the weather is really bad, there are lots of activity games you can play indoors. Use a timer, for instance, to see how fast each child can run from one part of your home to another and write the result on a chart so that they try to better their time on the next run.
Play games like ‘Simon says’ and have the children stand up and sit down on the floor in rapid succession. Whatever your solutions, do try to keep both of your children very active and make regular exercise a normal part of your family’s daily life.
