Article Summary

Your baby may love the early mornings but you probably don't. How can you keep an early-riser safe and entertained, and make sure you get enough sleep yourself?
SLEEP

Now that the baby easily pull herself up to a sitting position and to a standing position by holding onto the bars of her cot, it’s a good idea to try and extend the time she is content to stay alone in bed after waking in the morning. So, place some safe toys and a couple of cloth or cardboard books at the end of her bed.

Alternatively you can place them on a small table next to her cot. This will add a nice cognitive problem for the little one as she works out how to angle them so that they pass through the bars of the cot. Encourage her to play with these when she wakes up. This is beneficial for her because she will learn to play sometimes on her own, but it will also be quite wonderful for you as you lay in bed listening to her babbles but without getting up yet to tend to her. Every parent’s dream!

Hopefully you have already trained your older child to amuse himself on his own until you come through to his bedroom announcing it’s time for the whole family to get up.
