Article Summary

Your baby's awareness of changes in sound, light, taste and pressure mean they’re already tuning into their environment. Your baby is about 45 cm long and weighs approximately 2.5 kilos, but they’re still growing and storing up fat for the big journey into the world.
BABY DEVELOPMENT

The latest news from inside your womb, and how to share it with your child

PLUMPING UP

Your baby is busy growing and storing fat, gaining weight at the rate of about a quarter of a kilo each week. The fat that she is accumulating will be a vital source of energy for the exertions of the trip down the birth canal.
By the end of this month, your little one will weigh around 2.5 kilos (over 5.7 pounds) and measure over 45 cm (18 inches) from crown to heel.
With less room to move, she will soon be positioning herself ready for the big day, and your midwife will be keeping a close eye on her whereabouts from now on.

Remember to stay vigilant of regular foetal movements during these final weeks, and report any changes in activity that cause you concern.

CHILD-FRIENDLY INFO

Although your little one has no concept of day and night in her watery world, she is already fairly tuned into your patterns of sleep and wakefulness.
When the alarm bells rings in the morning, like you she is probably opening her eyes and gearing up for a little workout.
At 32 weeks, your baby is now more much more aware of changes in her environment. She notices changes in sounds, light, taste and pressure and is quick to remind you that she’s in there when anyone places a hand on your abdomen.
Her responses and levels of activity are an early indication of her developing personality. Will she be quiet and shy, or will she turn out to be a rough-and-tumble tomboy?
Not long now before you all find out!
