SUPPLEMENT MYTHS DISPELLED

Most mothers who are eating healthy, balanced diets do not need vitamin supplements during pregnancy.
You will have taken your folic acid - the one crucial additive to your normal diet - up to at least the 12th week of gestation, and there is no harm in staying on this supplement, but other than that, all the nutrients you need can be found in fresh, good quality food.
If you are keen to ensure that your vitamin and mineral intake is correct, go through your normal diet with your midwife. If she feels that it’s needed, she may recommend you take a product specifically designed for pregnancy. Whatever you do, don’t take other supplements without consulting a professional first. Certain vitamins and minerals can be dangerous for your unborn baby if taken in the wrong doses. Remember, it is always preferable to get your dietary needs fresh from their natural sources by eating well and looking after your health.
